Happy to report that my life is generally more positive than suggested in the previous post: I now have regular piano work at the Cherry Tree and I got the job at the Sage that I applied for some millenia ago. Cath and I are also drawing up plans to tout ourselves as a musical duo-de-force, if you will, and bag some well-paid function work. Whilst none of this is equalling the hmv income at the moment, it is at least staving off bankruptcy for a few more months.
I think the better weather has had a sobering effect also. I can't be miserable when the sun is shining and everything is green again.
I am also trying to remove myself physically and emotionally from some of the ridiculous dramas that go round and round and round within my circle of friends. I'll help where I can but I ain't getting drawn in to the same old shit over and over. Time to move on. It's funny how friendship hierarchies constantly change. I thought this was something particular to childhood friendships ("Ill let you be my best friend if you do x,y and z") but I think it's true of adult friendships too, albeit for slightly more meaningful reasons. Who will be my best friend this week, I wonder? I don't mean that in the superficial sense. I'm not a cunt: I don't pick up and drop people on a whim. All my friends are very important to me but it all comes down to maintaining a fairly equal balance of faith, trust, honesty and general effort between two parties. Some have come up short in these areas in recent weeks and their crowns have been toppled by others who have been far more reliable and inspirational.
Jesus, I think about stuff way too much...
